On Fridays, we come together to pray for a change in the President, and, barring that change; a change in the Presidency.

Today is Juneteenth, a historic day in America, commemorating and celebrating the ending of slavery in the United States. Today has also become a point of embarrassment for the President, as Trump recently planned a rally in Tulsa for Juneteenth, and then on backtracking, announced that he had made the day quite famous indeed.

No, President Trump, you did not make Juneteenth famous. And in 2020, Juneteenth takes on an extra significance among the cries for justice for Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks, and so many more. This nation is seeing protests against police brutality and systemic racism, and seeing change unprecedented in many of our lifetimes. Vote Common Good joins with the voices crying for justice, for change, and for actionable and lasting progress. Black Lives Matter, and it is time for our President to acknowledge that fact.

Today we will pray for a change in the President, or the Presidency, so that we may have an occupant of the Oval Office who cares about history, about progress, and about all of their constituents, not just the upper class white ones.

You can join us live as we pray this prayer at 1pm ET/ 12 CT/ 11am MT/ 10am PT on Facebook and YouTube and the Vote Common Good website.

Prayer 1 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump will publicly repent of his use of racist iconography, most recently his campaign ads using a Nazi symbol, and will take steps to repair the harm he has done.

Prayer 2 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump will codify the cries of Americans into law, and that he will take immediate and intense action towards a change in policing policies.

Prayer 3 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump will learn that there are not “very good people” on both sides of racism, and that racism has only two distinct sides – the side of justice, and the side of hate.

Prayer 4 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump repents of his attitude toward Black Americans and People of Color in this nation, specifically when he has used words such as “dogs,” “animals,” and “Low IQ.” We pray that he sees all people as equally created in the eyes of God, not just those who look like him.

Prayer 5 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump will repent of his racist and baseless attacks on President Obama’s birth certificate. We pray that Trump will acknowledge the right of Black Americans to lead, and will take actionable steps to include more diversity in the Oval Office and the federal government.

Prayer 6 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump will repent of his Xenophobia as well, and that he will reverse his attitude and his statements about “Shithole countries.” We pray that Trump will understand the responsibility of America to love our neighbors, and the right of every human being to life and respect.

Prayer 7 – Oh God of Justice, we pray for a change in the President. We pray that he will leave his racism, his divisiveness, and his arrogance behind.

We pray that Donald Trump will change his ways, but we are aware that this drastic shift is unlikely. Thus, we pray for a new President in 2021, and we pray that Americans show up in unprecedented numbers to reject the racism and hatred of Donald Trump this November.
