Today, the nation votes. Here in Texas, people are standing in lines in Houston, Laredo, Eagle Pass, and in small towns where nobody has knocked on a door or bothered to engage folks in political conversation in years — until you helped us get here.

Many people are nervous, others are fired up, and plenty feel a mix of both. What we hear over and over again is that people are tired of watching politicians turn us against each other. They’re tired of watching MAGA Christian Nationalists turn their faith into a weapon.

If you’re anxious today about where this country is headed, you’re not alone. A conversation I had with James Talarico spoke to that. The last thing he did before he had to run to his next stop was ask for prayers, and he said this is not just a political struggle, but also a spiritual one.

I’m praying today as we Get Out The Vote for him, and I hope you will too. Let’s pray for the volunteers, poll workers, and every voter who has to fight just to reach a ballot box.

Then do the part that gets people to the polls. If you haven’t voted, go, and bring someone with you. Make the common good your voting criteria, and tell the people you love to do the same.
