This bus won’t be traveling alone. It’s joining a growing caravan of partner-branded buses, local artists, and muralists meeting the route at every stop.
Hank Thomas is the last living member of the original thirteen — his daughter Robbie is riding this fall in his name. John Lewis’ nephew, Jerrick, is riding too, alongside Charles Person’s daughter, Keisha, and the Petway family’s daughter, Margaret. Joan Trumpauer Mulholland is meeting the bus in Washington to send it off.
We’re retracing this route because it matters. The fight over who gets to vote — who’s the “We” in “We the People” — is still being fought hardest in the same Southern states the original riders rode through.
And we’re taking this journey just two and a half weeks before the election that decides who will run Congress.
If you’d like to ride with us, or have a group that would, there are opportunities to do that. You can ride as an individual, a congregation, or an organization; you can partner with us and send your own delegation; or fund the ride outright without taking a seat.
Each seat on the coach costs $1,000 to fund for one leg of the route. You can take that seat yourself, or you can fund it for someone who couldn’t otherwise afford to ride.
