What the horrifying Washington Post ICE report actually says.
The number of people on the receiving end of this horrific violence climbed 54%, to roughly 1,330.
Pepper spray. Tasers. Physical tactics against people who were asking for water, food, medical care, or the belongings they came in with.

Here’s something else that should make your stomach drop. DHS has closed the watchdog offices that tracked abuse in detention.
I live in Minneapolis, and I’ve made multiple trips to “Alligator Alcatraz.” I’ve tried to help people get answers from ICE. You learn fast what they want you to learn: they don’t have to tell you anything.
The math underneath all this is uglier still. ICE has already reported 18 deaths in custody — on their watch — in the first months of this year, on pace to break a record that was just set last year. One every few days.
And the agency that is doing this is about to be handed up to $70 billion in new funding over the next three years through reconciliation, so that none of it has to slow down between now and the end of Trump’s term.
They are counting on faith voters to look the other way. They are counting on pastors not to say any of this on Sunday morning. They are counting on the story being too ugly to keep telling.

We’re not going to stop telling it. The 40+ candidates we’re working with across 17 states this cycle aren’t going to stop either.
I’ll be back at the detention centers, back in the pulpits that will have me, back on news channels and anywhere else a camera turns on, saying out loud what we now have on the record.
As I said outside of Alligator Alcatraz, we will not allow this cruelty to be normalized.
