Earlier this month, the DOJ charged 15 people for protesting Operation Metro Surge — the mass immigration sweep that flooded my hometown of Minneapolis with more than 2,000 federal agents this past winter.
Trump has declared them “antifa operatives” — but I was there, escorting parishioners into their own churches because they were too afraid of federal agents to walk through the front door.
What happened to Sister Letty on Sunday is part of this. Churches are supposed to be a safe harbor. But on the 250th anniversary of this nation, Donald Trump has made it clear that people of faith are now targets. Not in spite of their faith, but sometimes because of it.
The message seems to be that if someone doesn’t fit the mold of Christian Nationalism and loves their neighbors — watch out.
Vote Common Good isn’t backing down.
I’ve been on the road much of this month, and I’ve seen what happens when people of faith decide they’re done being afraid — we start winning.
Tonight is the last night of June. What you’ve made possible this month matters — and there’s more to do.
The people standing up for Sister Letty and for the parishioners too scared to walk into their own churches need to know we’re not going anywhere.
If you can give today, please do. It keeps us in the field, and it keeps this work going.
