The Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act — we’re not waiting.
Jeffrey L Steward,
Great news — tomorrow, we’re headed to Memphis with over 20 Common Good candidates.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed in Memphis for fighting for the rights and dignity of the people this country was discarding and treating as lesser-than. Voting rights were — and are — inseparable from that fight.
Last month, the Supreme Court ruled six to three and gutted the Voting Rights Act. Within weeks, Tennessee had already redrawn the map — splitting Memphis’s only majority-Black congressional district into three pieces.
