Friends,
To tell you the truth, it’s really hard to be in Washington, DC, in days like these. There’s a heaviness that sits over the city because of this administration. But I was there for the Summit for Religious Freedom, and when they’re putting a program together on defeating Christian Nationalism, they call Vote Common Good! We were honored to be there.

I’ve also had some good, long conversations with reporters and other faith leaders while I’ve been here, including what we’re organizing next across the country to flip House seats blue.
This morning, I was at the former Black Lives Matter Plaza, right by the White House, with the Moral Mondays group. We moved into the street at Lafayette Square with a group of clergy to call for a moral response to this war. All of it. The war overseas, and the wars this government is waging in our own cities.
We gathered in the shadow of St. John’s — the same church where Donald Trump once held up a Bible after Lafayette Square was cleared with force. Nobody standing there this morning missed the meaning of that ground. A rabbi blew a shofar. A singer led us down the plaza with “Oh Lord, hold on, just a little while.”

Pastors, peace activists, Jewish and Christian neighbors, people who drove in from all over — all of us, together, refusing to let our faith traditions be used as cover for cruelty.
Standing in that street this morning, I wasn’t thinking about whether the president could hear us. I was thinking about the woman in a pew somewhere in America who’s going to hear her MAGA Christian pastor tell her one more time that Jesus wants her to vote against her neighbors.
She’s the reason we came. She needs to know there are clergy who will stand in front of the White House and say that is not the Gospel.
I’m able to be in DC because supporters like you put me here. Every rally, every protest, every speech, every bus tour — it’s your giving that moves us from one place to the next.
Will you give $25, $50, $100, or any amount today so we can keep moving? The midterm elections are in 6 months, and we have a lot of ground to cover.
In this together,
Doug

Vote Common Good inspires people of good conscience to wake up, stand up, and speak up against MAGA politics and Christian Nationalism. We have a proven record of success moving faith voters away from radical candidates and inspiring them to vote their values for the common good. Please consider a contribution today.
