I stood with this community in January. We’re not walking away now.
Friends,
The Trump administration’s Department of Justice is now arresting people for standing up for our neighbors against ICE. We warned this was coming,
Tuesday, the DOJ announced charges against 15 people for protesting Operation Metro Surge — the mass immigration sweep that flooded the Twin Cities with more than 2,000 federal agents last winter.
|
Twelve of them were arrested in early morning raids. The 94-page indictment calls them “antifa operatives” and accuses them of conspiracy to impede federal officers. What it leaves out is that these folks were standing out in the bitter cold trying to protect their neighbors from being disappeared.
This is Trump’s retaliation.
Minneapolis is my hometown. At Vote Common Good, we held strong with our community, helping serve as a witness to ICE’s brutality, escorting parishioners inside their churches who were otherwise too scared of federal agents to enter.
|
I stood with the community after Renee Good was killed on January 7. I was at the vigil after Alex Pretti was shot on January 24. Both of them 37 years old, killed by federal agents as part of the surge.
We will not forget what happened.
