People thought I was nuts.
Friends,
On our first bus tour in 2018, when I told people we were mobilizing faith voters to vote for Democrats, more than one person looked at me like I was a little nuts. By then, it was long assumed those voters weren’t for us.
That’s always been wrong. The simple truth is that Democrats had ignored faith voters for far too long. When people open their Bible, it certainly isn’t MAGA politics they are seeing. Jesus led with love and compassion.
So to me, Vote Common Good’s mission just makes sense — and now the political class is catching up.
Politico is out now with a story on the pastors, Sunday School teachers, and chaplains running for office as Democrats this year — James Talarico in Texas, Adam Hamilton in Kansas, Lindsay James and Sarah Trone Garriott in Iowa.

Vote Common Good got the last word in the article, quoting me saying:

It’s been incredible to see.
And MAGA isn’t happy about it. Republicans are running ads calling Talarico a fake and calling two Iowa pastors “pastors in name only.” They’re calling Adam Hamilton, who has led a church for decades, a money changer.
They don’t have anything real to attack with, so they’re using the faith and leadership of these Democratic candidates as a weapon.
It’s not going to work — the tide has turned.

(A kind donor will match your donation through mid-October — see how far we are to our goal!)
To be clear, our work isn’t just about electing Christian candidates — anyone can quote scripture and still hurt their neighbors. Our goal is to get faith voters to vote for the common good, and we’re doing it across 17 states with more than 40 candidates.
Yes, you’re getting a lot of emails from us in the run up to the midterms, and we know it. We’re in many states, working with many candidates, and with only 34 days left until Election Day, we have a lot to share. The stakes are very, very high for our country.

If your inbox goes quiet for a couple of days after you donate, that’s on purpose. It’s our thank you.
In this together,
Doug
