Alexander William Tique-Marin, a volunteer who spent his Mondays handing out free groceries at a church food distribution in Burnsville, Minnesota, was detained by federal agents during what was supposed to be a routine immigration appointment.
Minneapolis-based Pastor Doug Pagitt, Executive Director of Vote Common Good, told Newsweek that Tique-Marin’s arrest is a pattern of “aggressive ICE actions that are destabilizing” communities.
“Alexander Tique-Marin did everything right—he complied with every requirement, showed up for his check-ins, held a full-time job, and served his community every week by helping feed people. And yet he was detained without warning and disappeared out of state within hours, leaving his family without answers.
“That’s not law enforcement rooted in accountability; it’s intimidation. When ICE treats compliance and community service as irrelevant, it undermines trust, damages families, and sends a clear message that no one is ever truly safe, no matter how faithfully they follow the rules.”
