These aren’t calls from a war zone. These calls are from a facility operated by a private prison company on behalf of the United States government, holding immigrant children and their parents in South Texas.
Thousands of pediatricians have signed a letter to DHS demanding that the children be released. “There is absolutely, unequivocally no appropriate way to detain a child, period,” one of the physicians told reporters.
I keep thinking about what we ask ourselves as people of conscience when we read about suffering — especially the suffering of children.

We’re not supposed to just scroll past a thing like this.
At Vote Common Good, we’ve been organizing with faith leaders on the ground in Minneapolis and beyond, including showing up as moral witnesses at ICE facilities. We just returned again from the horrifying “Alligator Alcatraz.”
With your help, we’re holding the line in protest on the streets along with our neighbors, in churches where ICE has harassed congregations, and in our nation’s capital, making the case that people of faith shouldn’t be silent about this.
Today is the last day of February. As we close out the month, I’m asking you to make a gift right now so we can keep going.
