Ninety-two places to vote are gone, and we’re getting on the bus.
We have to flip Congress to stop this madness, and we have just 22 days left to Election Day. A generous donor is matching your donation for the next 3 days to help us cross the country reaching voters. Donate any amount now.

Friends,
We’ve organized an effort that will start this weekend, when faith leaders, artists, Freedom Riders and their families gather in Washington, D.C., to retrace the original Freedom Riders’ route through the Deep South and honor their fight for civil rights 65 years ago.
We’re calling it The Ride.
Rev. Dr. Michael Waters, our Director of Black Voter Engagement and one of the people who built this journey, spoke to Religion News to explain why we’re doing this today in 2026:
“In the same spaces and places where they fought to bring about liberation are the spaces and places where democracy is under duress.”

Today’s threats are very real.
Just one county over from his church in Dallas, Republican commissioners in Tarrant County voted to eliminate 92 Election Day polling places. This means the county will have 224 places to vote this year, down from 316 during the last midterm election.
|
That’s ninety-two places where people could vote, gone.
Voters are fighting in court to try to restore those voting sites, which will have the hardest impacts on Black and Hispanic communities.
This is what a democracy in distress looks like, and we won’t stand for it.

In 1961, thirteen Black and white Freedom Riders left D.C. for New Orleans to challenge segregation on interstate travel. Racists beat riders and firebombed a bus near Anniston, Alabama. Hundreds who participated in fighting for what’s right were arrested and jailed.
On Saturday, The Ride begins in Washington, including with some family members of those very same riders.
|
We’re traveling through the communities where those early riders put their bodies on the line because they knew that this country belongs to We the People.
The journey reaches New Orleans on October 28, completing the bus route the first riders were prevented from finishing.
