ICE officers shot Johan five times on his way to work a month ago, on July 13 — not even the target of the warrant the agents were serving that morning. He was simply a man leaving his home.
Because Congress didn’t schedule an official hearing surrounding his death, Representatives Chellie Pingree, Katherine Clark, and Bennie Thompson organized a “shadow hearing” themselves. They had to. A month later, no one from the DOJ, FBI, or DHS has told Johan’s family what happened to him.
What we do know is that allegations have emerged that the ICE officer who killed Johan wasn’t fit to carry a federal badge and a gun, having had a violent history with family members in the past, including multiple romantic partners.
Under the authority of Donald Trump and MAGA, ICE shows no signs of slowing down. All signs point to an intent to hurt even more people.
The Department of Homeland Security has been finalizing a $20 million order for something called the G.L.O.V.E. This padded glove lets an officer press a button on the wrist and send a painful shock into a person’s bare skin.
