“Religion is something that sits deep in the identity of a person regardless of how often they go,” says Doug Pagitt, an evangelical pastor and founder of the progressive Christian nonprofit Vote Common Good, which tries to draw religious voters away from Trump. “Pollsters need to ask, ‘Which church do you feel like you’re skipping this Sunday?’ Not, ‘Which church did you go to this Sunday?’”
