Four days after Alex Pretti was killed while filming federal agents in Minneapolis, a few miles from my home, the Department of Homeland Security opened an investigation.
Not into the agents who killed him — into the people who showed up after Alex was killed.
They investigated people who were grieving, angry, and trying to keep their neighbors safe.
The documents we have as of today are shocking in what they reveal.

In Roseville, federal agents wrote down the license plates of the cars in the parking lot outside a church training session. They used those plates to pull names and search social media to build an “intel work-up” on the people who’d gathered at the church.
I’ve been in these rooms. I’ve stood at church doors in my hometown of Minneapolis helping to escort parishioners who were too afraid of ICE to walk in alone, just so they could worship.
And these documents are talking about targeting the teachers, veterans, union members, and neighbors trying to protect each other in the same way.
They didn’t stop at churches. Homeland Security reviewed more than three years of financial records from the Sunrise Movement and the Communications Workers of America, reaching back years further than the unrest itself.
Investigators went through three years of wire transfers from SEIU, the largest healthcare workers’ union in the country, and called it an inquiry into “domestic terrorist financing.”
Prosecutors showed a grand jury a PowerPoint slide titled “The Conspiracy” that named eighteen groups, including the AFL-CIO.

Not one of them has been charged with a crime.
The lawyer whose court motion uncovered these documents said Homeland Security decided, without evidence, that Twin Cities unions and nonprofits were part of some sweeping conspiracy. He’s correct to call it political animus.
You’re supposed to start with evidence of a crime. Not with a target, and then go hunting for a case.
Back in June, I told you about the fifteen people who were charged as “antifa operatives” — people who stood in the bitter cold trying to do what was right to protect people from ICE.
Now we know how much further it went. They reached into Signal chats, libraries, parks, churches — anyone who stood against ICE’s Operation Metro Surge and the murder of two of our own.
Vote Common Good stood with these churches and these communities before this story broke, and we’re not going to walk away now. This is why we are hitting the road and traveling across the nation to be sure people will be elected who will do something to respond to this lawless administration.

If this administration can watch people, subpoena them, and build dossiers on them for showing up for their neighbors, then showing up matters even more.
