Last month, her opponent, MAGA Republican Joe Mitchell, stood on a stage in Des Moines in front of a room full of pastors and gave her the title of PINO — Pastor in Name Only.
He believes that because Lindsay preaches and works for the common good and not MAGA Christianity, she isn’t a “real” pastor.
Lindsay pushed back, posting a video simply stating what Mitchell said. His response was to mock her on social media, saying that his nieces and nephews who watch VeggieTales know more about Christianity than she does.
It’s easy to see what Joe Mitchell is doing. He can’t win on showing up for people or even on theology — that isn’t what MAGA does — so he reaches for a joke about cartoon vegetables instead.
Lindsay does the work, being there for people in their darkest moments, including uplifting the young people of this country.
Attacks from MAGA Christian Nationalists are on the rise this election cycle — a dozen pastors and seminarians are running for federal office as Democrats this year, like Lindsay. Instead of debating them on policy, Republicans keep telling voters these aren’t “real” Christians.
