Six American soldiers were brought home in flag-draped coffins on Saturday. The death toll has since risen to eight.
Their commander-in-chief sent them to fight an unconstitutional war — and his generals are calling it God’s will.
This is Christian Nationalism. And it has consequences.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — a longtime Christian Nationalist — has made no secret of his crusade to reshape the military in his image. Now military commanders are openly calling this war “anointed by Jesus” and “part of God’s divine plan.”
Thirty members of Congress — led by Reps. Huffman and Raskin — are demanding an investigation into whether Hegseth’s extreme religious rhetoric has “metastasized into segments of the military chain of command” in violation of the Constitution.
This war is not approved by Congress, let alone God.

A U.S. strike hit a girls’ elementary school in southern Iran on February 28, killing scores of civilians — most of them children, still in their school uniforms. Human Rights Watch is calling for an investigation as a war crime.
