Friends,
While America was sleeping and without the approval of Congress, Donald Trump launched a war on Iran.
From Mar-a-Lago, he released a video confirming “major combat operations in Iran,” citing “imminent threats” to justify the strikes.
The New York Times fact-checked three of his central claims and found them to be false or unsupported.
|
Then, also in the dead of night, Trump posted on Truth Social to say that Iran had tried to interfere in the 2020 and 2024 elections “to stop Trump,” countering his own claims about Iran being an imminent threat.
|
The Constitution is very clear about this. Article 1, Section 8, gives Congress, and Congress alone, the authority to declare war.
What makes this even more difficult is that nuclear negotiations with Iran were active. The Omani mediator has confirmed that the day before the bombs fell, talks were making serious progress toward a deal.
Trump ended those talks with airstrikes.
War should be held as a last resort. Every path toward peace should be exhausted before lives are put at risk — and lives, including lives of Americans, have been lost as a result of Trump’s actions. We were nowhere near exhausting all of our options for peace here.

A president who starts a war in the middle of the night, with no vote and no accountability, is a president who must be checked at the ballot box.
We have to elect people who can rein him in. That is exactly what we are working toward here at Vote Common Good. We need your help to do it.
