Dear Friends,
President Donald Trump recently said, “I’m not a big fan of Pope Leo. He’s a very liberal person.”
Trump and his MAGA allies have had plenty to say about Pope Leo and Catholic social justice teaching. None of it has been positive. Pope Leo’s calls for compassion, justice, peace and respect for the dignity of every person do not fit their political agenda.
Our faith teaches us to welcome the stranger, care for the poor, protect the vulnerable, pursue peace and love our neighbors. These are not liberal or conservative values. They are Catholic values, and we cannot remain silent when they are dismissed or attacked.
The midterm elections give us an opportunity to change the direction of our country. Catholics Vote Common Good is working in key congressional districts across the nation to support candidates who will protect democracy and lead with compassion, justice and respect for every person.
Now is the time to get involved. Volunteer. Donate. Talk with your family, friends and neighbors. Most importantly, vote.
We can do better, and together, we will.
