Dear {{ FirstName | default: 'friends' }},

"God's love calls us to move beyond fear. We ask God for the courage to put on faith, hope and love as we go out into the world and become the word in body as well as spirit."

- Pope Francis

Thank You for All Your Efforts

Well, it wasn't for a lack of trying...

Thank you to everyone who wrote postcards, made phone calls, crafted letters to the editor, shared our commercials online, put up lawn signs, attended our rallies and pre-debate virtual prayer gatherings or monthly meetings, as well as invested in our billboard campaign and organization as a whole.

You did the work. You didn't just talk about doing something. You didn't just post an opinion online. You joined with others across the country and took action to reach out to other Catholics like us who know we can do better than a convicted felon.

Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon

Your efforts to make the common good our voting criteria and bring it into the national political conversation has been good work. Together, we have taken the organization we built just four years ago a very far way. We have found strong champions in the US Senate like Chris Coons and House of Representatives members such as Rosa DeLauro, Mary Gay Scanlon, Madeleine Dean, Chris DeLuzio, and, of course, our original champion Tom Suozzi, as well as incoming members of Congress Josh Riley and John Mannion.

The other side, according to the right wing political operation that calls itself Catholic Vote claims to have spent $10 million dollars (a fraction of their $30 million operating budget) just since January in an attempt to suppress first President Biden's and then Vice President Harris's turn-out among Catholics in swing states. While according to them, their results were "eye-popping," like everything they claim, the numbers weren't as impressive as they might appear at first blush.

NBC exit polls from Tuesday night (always an inexact science) say Trump received 56% of the Catholic vote nationally. While that is impressive, I'm sure my friends at Catholic Vote know it is disappointing. Their goal was at least 60% like in previous races. In other words, if VP Harris was able to hold President Biden's coalition together and we at Catholic Vote Common Good did our job of keeping Trump to less than 60% of the Catholic vote, she would have won handily. Unfortunately, the numbers from other groups didn't hold.

In short, we as a multi-issue Catholic, Pope Francis voting community made extraordinary strides. And we will continue.

In the near future, we will bring everyone together to listen about where folks think we should go from here. While a bad thing happened Tuesday night, we will not be going away. Multi-issue Catholics will need our community more than ever and we will provide it. We will regroup soon...after we get some rest.

Thank you again for your tireless efforts. It's been an honor to work with you to built an organization from scratch that makes a real difference for common good candidates and Catholics around the country.
